Well in case you’re wondering, I picked up my apple pie from the fair (without my trash talking six year old) and it looks like things came out in my favor again this year. If he’d been there, I’m afraid something like “IN YOUR FACE” might have come out of his mouth, or “OH SNAP”.

He’s actually said that before. I’m ashamed to admit it.

ribbons

So I brought home a second place ribbon for my cinnamon rolls, first place for some good old homemade biscuits and first place/grand champion for my pie. I heard it came down to my pie and someone else’s fudge. Oh the drama of small town county fairs–where baked goods start World War III.

But I have to say that after a week inside a plastic bag in 90 degree temperatures on display none of it looked worthy of a ribbon. Yikes.

And now we’re on to the hot, sticky summer days. Last night we went to another fair and put our lives on the line in the midway. My daughter forced me onto that deadly roller-coaster thing that goes in a circle over and over again at what feels like 80  miles an hour–then goes backwards.

That was NOT good people. I’m getting so old.

Tater Knob’s Sparkling Summer Punch

And when we got home, a glass of this Tater Knob Sparkling Summer Punch would have been perfect. Of course I didn’t have any, but you’ll plan better than I will. This recipe comes from the talented, wonderful Sarah Culbreth of Tater Knob Pottery outside Berea, Kentucky–an area known for its local artisans and crafty folks.
