Natural homemade kitchen cleaner

Natural homemade kitchen cleaner cuts grease and grime like a champ and is safe to use. You can even make it antibacterial!

Natural homemade kitchen cleaner is a wonder of wonders. By using safe ingredients, I don’t have to worry for a second about what I’m using on my kitchen surfaces and I’m still cutting grease and grime like a madwoman.

You know what’s funny about this picture? I don’t know if you would even notice it if I didn’t tell you. There’s no tube going down in to the jar. See it? That’s because no one REALLY uses a mason jar to spray their kitchen cleaner do they? If you’re like me you have a big old plastic spray bottle from Walmart under your counter and you keep it in that.

I feel ‘ya. But for the world of “beautiful blog picture” peer pressure I had to get crafty. Or at least attempt it so I pulled the sprayer off another bottle and set it on top. Hahahaha! I crack myself up. Just go on and pretend it’s functional if it makes you happy and you can pretend I spray everything out of a mason jar. Because I just don’t.

I started making this spray about a year ago, but I’ve always had an inner struggle with harsh chemicals–especially when my kids were small. I didn’t want them to eat food off the counters that might have residue on it so I’d diligently rinse everything after I cleaned it. I was a worrier. But now I don’t have to worry so much. This cleaner really does an awesome job and I don’t have to wonder how much hexa-metha-penta-whatsa I just ingested.

As much as I cook, my kitchen is a mess and I can get it all with this. Even cleans my stainless 🙂

The essential components of this recipe are borax, washing soda (not baking soda, and both are in your laundry section at the store) and castile soap in your choice of scent (I use lavender, and I found mine at Rite Aid).

If you want to add an essential oil to yours you can go with a few drops of lemon, lavender or tea tree (for a natural antibacterial). If you haven’t used essential oils before, make sure you get a quality one that says it’s safe for ingestion or use in this way. Not all of them are. I use DoTerra–you can check out my affiliate page and get them there if you need any. They are a little expensive, but it only takes a couple of drops and wow–they smell fantastic and add that extra boost of natural cleaning power. I could go on all day about oils.

Just make sure you actually put yours in a bottle that will spray. 😉

  1. Great recipe! And thanks for not trying to get me to join an essential oil cult in the process. 😉 I have a homemade cleaner that uses essential oils, I’m not against them, but I just don’t want that to be my sole purpose in life. Anyway, I can’t wait to try out this cleaner. Thanks for sharing!
