Sweet and Tangy Watermelon Limeade

I wish we had something…different. That’s what you say as you stare off in to space trying to plan for the next birthday party, bridal shower or event on your list in the coming months. Tired of plain lemonade? Sick of soda? I hear you. Give this watermelon limeade it’s own time in the spotlight and you’ll have an easy, fresh drink on hand that’s sure to bring the compliments.

I’m such a sucker for a cherry limeade from Sonic I just won’t lie about it. I don’t actually drink that much soda in a week–maybe one can total–but if you offer me one of those fizzy, sweet, lime-y drinks and a bag of onion rings. I. Am. Down.

Good thing the nearest one is almost a half hour away. Living out here has its perks for my health I guess.

But last week when I brought home one of the prettiest seedless watermelons from town I knew it needed to be eaten without fear–juice dripping down the elbows and all–and we did that with one half. But the other half I used to make this special watermelon limeade, perfect for whatever special occasion or absolutely no occasion you have on your radar.

Picture a big batch of this ready for the baby shower or bridal shower you’re hosting. Maybe a couple of mint leaves in the mix, and one of those cool ice molds I never could make–the kinds with the fruit frozen in it.

You’re so Martha.

And now see the smiles on the faces of your guests as they sip and look at their glass. (Why do we always look down at something that surprises us? Like it changed in the three seconds since we took a bite.)

And they smile at you, compliment you, and drink every drop.

Making any drink like this is so much easier than you might think. The key is to make a simple syrup of sugar and water to sweeten it (yes watermelon limeade does need a little sugar) so that you don’t have chunks of sugar laying in the bottom of your pitcher. What good is it gonna do you down there?

It takes just 15 minutes to stir up and you can make it a couple of days ahead if you need to. If you like this, take a glance at my homemade lemonade, or fruit tea punch. Dress any of them up with some sparkling water for some fizz if you want to!

Here’s how:
